Before anybody called it Southern hip-hop, these artists made country rap tunes. Cory Mo came up inside this lineage — hype man for the Geto Boys' Big Mike in 1997, UGK's in-house producer from 1999 — and has spent the years since documenting it.

Rap-A-Lot's flagship. Dark, honest, unmistakably Houston — the group that made the whole country listen to Houston.

MEET CORY MO

Pimp C's protégé. UGK's producer. The keeper of country rap tunes.

Cory Mo came up under Pimp C and Bun B — on the road as Big Mike's hype man in 1997, UGK's in-house producer from 1999, and later a Grammy winner for Killer Mike's “Down By Law” with CeeLo Green.

When Pimp C passed in 2007, Cory started Country Rap Tunes so the sound, and the man who named it, would never fade. Every spin on the radio, every episode and every drop keeps that promise. Long live Pimp C.
